Artist Statement – Amir Shingray

Amir Shingray’s work explores the space between abstraction and representation, shaped by personal history and cultural experience. Earlier in his practice, he engaged with themes of geopolitical conflict, post-colonial Africa, and displacement, often responding to issues such as conflicts and immigration. Following a residency in China, his focus shifted toward more direct, sensory experiences—particularly his encounters with the monumental presence of mountains and other significant natural spaces. His current work reflects this transition, offering a contemplative response to form, scale, and the quiet impact of place.
